2009 The Year Of Cheap Air Tickets

What do you think the air travel industry will be like in 2009? After the year the airlines saw in 2008 your guess would be as good a guess as anyone else at this point. When it does come to the analysts for this stuff though they all seem to be predicting more of the same in 2009. So what did we the consumer see in 2008 from the airlines and what can we the consumer expect in 2009?

Well in 2008 we the consumer did not see much of anything when it came to air travel as most of us cut our air travel plans to the bear necessities. The result of course was airlines cutting the amount of flights they put in the air, grounding flights and letting employees go. We also saw the start of airlines placing extra charges on the extra bags, meals and even drinks in some cases. We also saw the slashing of air fare prices all be it not that much.

Swiss A330Well in 2009 we can expect to see more airlines cutting the amount of flights in their daily schedules and routes. What we can really expect to see as consumers is the real slashing of air fare prices. Since the price of fuel has come down and remained down for a few months now the airlines are running out of options to get people back in their seats. They have all cut flights, crews and added extra charges where ever they could. So cutting air fares for a lot of airlines is their last desperate move to get people back in the air.

We are already seeing the resulting air fare price slashing begin as flights that were hundreds of dollars right before the holidays are in many cases cut big time some I have seen even cut in half! I would recommend checking flight prices even for a trip you may not be planning until the summer. Airlines need people in their seats and they are putting air fare deals on their sites for months in advance. So be sure to check all the airlines that may fly to your destination because the odds have never been more in your favor to find a cheap airline ticket to your favorite destination.
