Staycations Up Traffic To Travel Sites Way Down

So who is thinking about booking some travel plans for this holiday season? Well it turns out that there are quite a lot of people thinking about their travel plans for the holiday season. You know what they are thinking about them? They are thinking that they will not be booking them this year or anytime soon either. You see there are reports that simply the idea of looking into travel arrangements is simply too much of a tease for people. Why do I say that? Because travel websites across the board are reporting significant drops just in their traffic to their websites.

People are not even entertaining the idea of booking travel plans as major travel sites like Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz are reporting website traffic decline as much as 25%. That is a big ouch in the wallet for the travel industry as a whole. We already knew that bookings were on a steady decline but now people are not even entertaining the idea of travel and have committed to staying home or just driving.

Navagio (shipwreck) beachI don’t think this is really a surprise to anyone is it? I know that the majority of people I know either friends or family that usually books some sort of travel plans for this year are opting to stay home or just drive to see close friends or family. It almost feels like everyone is waiting for someone to give them the green light to think that the economy is going to be OK. Alright everyone we have hit the bottom and it’s time that we turn this thing around and start spending our money again. Wouldn’t that be nice if it were that simple as green light red light.

Anyway it looks like a lot more days of staycations for the winter. I don’t think it will last much past the spring though. At some point people are going to get that itch again to get away. Hopefully by late spring or early summer we can all start looking forward again to booking some vacation travel plans to our favorite destinations.
