Less Business Travel Required Thanks To Technology

How often do you really need to travel in this world of technology and advanced forms of communications? Let’s think about all the money that business people spend in travel expenses. People all over the world are traveling less either by air, cars, buses or trains. We have all globally cut back on travel as a way to save money and the majority of that travel that was cut back on was business. Did all these business suddenly stop doing business or did they just replace it with available alternatives?

Just based on personal observation from my own surroundings at my job and home. A few things at work where we have sales team and offices all over the country and we work with companies in every field. So naturally there is a lot of traveling that goes on for business purposes.Cutting back on travel expenses has been a company wide effort and in doing so we have taken more advantage of technology. For example a lot more conference calls, emails and online office meetings to collaborate on any issues.

At home the time spent in the cars traveling around doing basic errands has been condensed as well. Very rarely does somebody leave the house with just one destination planned. Daily travels around town involve way more stops now with less trips during the week.

Just speaking from our personal experience over the last year we cut back a lot just like everyone else. In an effort to save money just to get by on the rising fuel and food prices. We have learned to save a lot by changing our driving habits and unnecessary travels. Taking more advantage of things like email and Skype video calls to friends and family to keep in touch.

Disney - Cinderella Castle Dream Lights (Explored)We are planning to break out later this year and do some vacation traveling this year. We booked a few trips for later in the year just because the prices have dropped so dramatically. In case you have not looked lately there are some sweet hotel deals that you can get online now. For example prices for hotels down in the Disney World area are looking really good in comparison to last year.

I guess the point of all this ranting today is that I think that people in general are learning take more advantage of technology. With video calls, mobile smart phones, text messaging and emails replacing a big portion of business travel. Business travel that when you think about it is really not necessary in this day and age. I think that even when we turn the corner on this recession the need for business travel will continue to decline and vacation travel will become the main purpose of all this driving and flying around that we all like to do.
