Unemployment Rates Keep Holiday Travel Plans Short

I saw a few travel reports from AAA hit the news wires in the last few days regarding the amount of travel for the upcoming holiday here in the US. No surprises really as has been the trend all year is that the agency is reporting a sharp decrease in the amount of holiday travel plans this year over last.

I think the more interesting report from the AAA agency was the fact that they found that the people in the mountain west part of the country will actually be traveling more than last year. So that leads to the question why do people that live in that region of the country seem to be traveling more than the rest of us? I don’t think it’s the gas prices as they are lower for everybody than they were last year and it’s not the prices of airline tickets as they are also much lower than they were a year ago. I think it is just that the people of that region of the country seem to be more adventurous and more in tune with what is important to them which happens to be travels and vacations.

The rest of us are more concerned with the skyrocketing unemployment rates more than anything I would think. I mean it’s hard to think about planning a vacation when you are not sure about the status of your job in the next few weeks or months.

I know for my family we are not planning any long distance travels this holiday and staying local to our home. For the most part of the people that I have spoken to of our family and friends that they are staying close to home as well.
